Make it stand out.

Ugly Duck supported WomanEwer by offering a week’s residency in their dance studio. The dancers developed the work and researched ways to tell their stories and those from the women interviewed.

Although women, all over the world fall victim to abuse, assault and rape on an everyday basis, they continue to be seen as nurturing creatures, whose existence should be devoted to the caring and feeding others. These gestures played an integral part in the research and development of the work as Wai Shan, Sara and Laura explored how to translate the repeated occurrence of violence and persistent abuse with the generally accepted, yet limiting narrative of what it means to be a woman, who despite all continues to wish to be able to choose her place in the world.
