Kah’Loca Trailer

A new outdoor performance celebrating female strength and resilience. KAH’LOCA is a multigenerational outdoor work of dance-theatre. Dressed in bright colours with flamboyant funky headpieces, 6 women aged 13-60 use movement and voice to challenge the narrative of what it means to be a woman and bring to public attention the sheer scale of violence against women. This piece is a collection of stories, testimonials and protests expressed through movement & sound, performed by survivors.

The colours & aesthetic of the costumes are inspired by the famous Mexican painter & feminist icon Frida Kahlo. Frida was bold, spirited and well known for the way she embraced colours, wearing vibrant & bold patterned dresses and adorning herself with flowers & ribbons.

WomanEwer’s aim is to make the stories of women and girls in KAH’LOCA capable of symbolising a desire for everyone to have their own voice, to speak out, be bold and step up for themselves, empowering the harmed and shaping once mute spaces.
